On the southern fringe of Koh Phangan you can find Haad Baan Tai Beach and Pier. During our time on the island, we visited this beach many times due to the stunning sunsets, peaceful aura and long stretch of sand perfect for an evening stroll after dining in town.

The long-stretching beach of Baan Tai faces the larger Koh Sumui and has golden sand, calm water in peak season (December to April) and perfect kiteboarding conditions during the rainy season. Due to the shallow water the conditions are not ideal for swimming, however we managed to cool-off with an evening dip when the tide was high.

Baan Tai Beach is located near lots of popular bars & restaurants one of our favourites being Mama’s Thai Food  which we highly recommend. This prime location means there’s also lots of beachfront accommodation, a beachside gym and Baan Tai Pier to explore.

Below we share everything you need to know about visiting Haad Baan Tai Beach.

Where Is Haad Baan Tai Beach?

Baan Tai Beach is situated on the south coast of Koh Phangan, around a 10 minute drive from Thong Sala and 20 minutes from Haad Rin.

How To Get To Haad Baan Tai Beach & Pier?

You can access the beach from any of the beachfront resorts or via the pier. If you’re located in Thong Sala Town or Haad Rin then a scooter is the easiest way to get around the island however the songthaews (Shared Taxis) often drive this road as it’s a main route on the island.

Haad Baan Tai beach is the perfect place to come and watch the sunset on Koh Phangan. We enjoyed many evenings here, sitting on the white sand enjoying the spectacle of the sun going down over the horizon. However, Baan Tai Beach has lots more to offer.

First of all the area is full of bars, restaurants and resorts meaning there’s plenty of food choices, cocktail choices and accommodation. There is also a beachfront gym for people looking to workout or if you’re on a budget - Baan Tai Pier has free public gym equipment.

Although the water at the beach is shallow, during high tide we managed a swim to cool off and during low tide we watched locals gathering seafood.

Finally, further down the beach towards Thong Sala you can go kitesurfing. The conditions in the rainy season make the sea slightly more choppy and perfect for the sport.

How Much Is Entrance

Entrance to Haad Baan Tai Beach is free plus there are lots of places to park your scooter. We normally walked down to the beach from our accommodation, World Citizen GuestHouse located further into the town of Baan Thai which is a great area to stay on a budget.

What To Bring To Haad Baan Tai Beach

You don’t need much but definitely bring your swimming costume, sun cream and of course you'll need a good Microfibre Towel which is lightweight and compact, perfect for travelling. We also spent our time on the beach reading our books or listening to podcasts as the sun went down. If you want to workout using the equipment on Baan Tai Pier then wear suitable clothing that is comfortable and breathable.

Best Places To Stay Near Baan Tai Beach

Phangan Beach resort is nestled in a private cove on Baan Tai Beach. With beachfront bungalows with sea view balconies, massage services and water sport available this is a great spot to head, plus it’s reasonably priced!

If you’re looking for luxury, Le Divine Comedie is a boutique hotel with an infinity pool that looks over Haad Baan Tai Beach.

If you’re backpacking like us, See Sea Backpackers is a budget-friendly and social hostel. Only 80m from the beach, close to our favourite restaurant Mama Tai and with air-conditioning we think this would be the perfect stop for solo travellers or couples on a budget.
