LWB Sprinter Van Camper Conversion Layout Idea: Floor Plans and Measurements

Looking to convert a van to allow you to work on the road? Well the Workspace adventurer is just that. A mobile office and home to make your digital nomad dreams come true.

We have created a guide about our Unique Sprinter Van Camper Conversion Layout, The Workspace Adventurer. We're Kate and Mike, who bought a Mercedes Sprinter van in 2022 to explore the world. Recently, we completed a bucket list 3-month road trip through Scandinavia.

The Workspace Adventurer - A Sprinter Camper Conversion Bringing your Office Beneath Mountains, Amidst Forests, or Lakeside

This is our first campervan and we designed it to allow us to work 9-5 on the road. We love our unique layout, and we haven’t seen many like ours with the hybrid U-Sofa at the back, so we have decided to create a detailed guide and diagrams including sprinter van conversion floor plans of our LWB layout. Hopefully this blog will help you with your Mercedes Sprinter conversion ideas.

Whether you're already a keen Van Lifer, a design enthusiast, or someone seeking inspiration for your own campervan, this should help you on your way. Below we share the overall design of our Sprinter Van Conversion, The Workspace Adventurer.

Contents

Kitchen and Cooking Setup in a Van

The campervan kitchen is equipped with essential appliances, including a huge 85L fridge, a versatile 3-hob oven & grill, a medium-sized sink and a tap providing filtered water. These elements combine to create a functional and well-equipped cooking space. There are two long counters giving you ample space. For us the kitchen was more than enough and we managed to cook up all our usual meals in there.

Bathroom Room & Full Shower Room

A standout feature is our full shower room equipped with a composting toilet. This private space is constructed with three PVC panels supported by ply backing, offering both durability and functionality. Additionally, we've incorporated hanging space for coats and clothes, using an extendable rail from amazon.

Outdoor shower

We added an outdoor shower on the cabinet that overflows the sliding door as the plumbing was already in place for the sink.

Toilet

We loved the ease of the Simploo Original. With no chemicals we found ample places to dispose of our waste as we travelled around Europe. It gave us the confidence that we weren't harming the environment. The 6 litre pee bottle lasted us around 3 days. We opted to buy a second bottle for £15 to allow us to stay off grid for longer.

Countertops and Storage

Two countertops run from the bed to the cab, creating a functional kitchen space. These countertops are equipped to accommodate a stove, sink, and provide ample workspace. The space underneath features four clothes drawers, a dedicated pan cupboard, a cleaning cupboard, a bin cupboard, and a fridge. Additionally, four overhead cabinets offer storage for items such as plates, cups, and tech essentials.

Hatch

Below the seating area there is also a large hatch where we kept our bedding, extra food supplies, dirty laundry and pretty much anything else you need accessible in the van. With this design storage is definitely not a problem.

Raised Queen-Sized Bed

The bed is elevated at the back of the van, providing a cosy retreat after a day of adventures. This Queen-sized bed is not just for sleeping; it seamlessly transforms into a dining area or a flexible desk space using the Lagun Swivel Mount. The cushions from the sofa area ingeniously form the mattress, and the space beneath the bed serves as a generous hatch area for convenient bedding storage.

Now for the best part of the build. The U-sofa is raised allowing for a large storage area under the seating area. This gives you the luxury of a large garage, seating area and queen-sized bed!

Garage Space

At the rear of the van, we've dedicated a garage space for adventure gear. This area ensures that outdoor equipment, from kayaks to hiking gear, is securely stowed, keeping the living quarters organized and clutter-free.

Three Dedicated Workspaces

When we designed the van we knew we both needed somewhere to work. Mike works a 9-5 London job while I (Kate) create the blogs and website. The layout has three dedicated workspaces strategically placed throughout the van. The first is the main office at the front of the van, the second space is our seating area at the back which has a swivel table and finally we have an outdoor standing desk.

Starlink

In order to get internet connection in the most remote places we could find in the Norwegian wilderness we used Starlink and it was an absolute life saver, worth every penny. Although quite big and not cheap if you are considering becoming a digital nomad and working from anywhere in a campervan we recommend Starlink. Check out our blog below for more information:

Finishing Touches - Blackout Blinds

How to make blackout window covers for a van

Adding the final touches for me (Kate) was my favourite part. It makes your van feel like home. We decided to go with a yellow theme to match the outside and add a pop of colour to our mainly white interior. One way to do this is through crafting blackout window covers. This is also crucial for privacy, insulation, and overall comfort during your journey. Skip the pricey pre-made options and follow our detailed DIY guide to create custom window covers that match your style. In this revamped guide, we've incorporated user-friendly steps, detailed material breakdowns, and additional tips to elevate your campervan experience.

Essential Items For a Campervan

Omnia Oven For Van Life

Omnia Oven Perfect for vans without an oven. You can cook bread, pies, cakes and more just by using your gas stove. This really is a game changer in the kitchen.

Small Projector

Pocket Sized Projector For cosy nights in the van, this is the perfect projector. This projector is small, lightweight but has great picture quality. We love this and use it all the time.

Karcher window vac

Kärcher Window Vac A must have for condensation which will build up quickly in your van and cause mould. We used this daily in Norway and was a real life-saver in colder weather.

Solar Trickle Charger

Solar Trickle Charger If you don't drive your van or motorhome enough then this can save the battery from dying. Plug it in and solar energy will top up the battery.

Solar Trickle Charger

Leatherman Multi-Tool A great piece of kit to fix pretty much anything in your van, from broken draws to leaky showers this will be your best friend. We also always take it camping with us!
