Chile

The Spine of the Americas

Chile is a destination with a lot going on. In one country you can stand at the edge of glaciers in Patagonia, drive through windswept national parks, hike volcanoes with glaciers in their craters, end up beneath the clearest night skies on Earth in the Atacama Desert and drive the epic Carretera Austral.

Chile is a country made for road trips. We’re exploring it as part of our Pan American Highway journey, driving the length of the country from the far south of Patagonia all the way to the Atacama Desert in the north. After buying our car in Santiago, we headed south through the lake region and down the Carretera Austral to Villa O'Higgins. We spent 3 months uncovering the hidden gems this country has to offer and have come to the conclusion it is an underrated travel destination.
