Weligama is quickly becoming a hotspot for digital nomads and remote workers. Coworking spaces are popping up all over town, alongside co-living spots, cafés with reliable WiFi, and social events that make it easy to connect with like-minded travellers.
Like most nomads, we found one cafés we loved and kept going back but for you guys we ventured out to try some of the other nomad cafés in Weligama, although we think our first spot was the best!
We also checked out Ice Weligama, a great place to meet new people as they host daily community events such as yoga and meditation.

Best Coliving & Coworking Spaces In Weligama
Outpost Weligama

Outpost is known amongst digital nomads, having locations in both Bali and Sri Lanka it is the most-established place on our list.
Staying at the coliving space Outpost will give you access to their coworking rooms with international plug points, fast, reliable WiFi, standing desk and dedicated video-call booths. There is also a generator for backup power, a pool and beachfront access.
This is the perfect place to stay if you have scheduled meetings, an important deadline or just need to be productive.
Nomad Cafe Weligama

Nomad Café Weligama was the first cafés we visited to work from and is the best digital nomad cafés in Weligama. Located on a bustling junction, it might seem noisy from the outside, but once you step in, you’re surrounded by rattan, wood and greenery, the perfect haven to be productive.
The cafés and boutique is tailored for remote workers with plenty of plug sockets, consistent Wifi and great coffee! So good we perhaps drank too much of it!
We were also drawn to the boutique section which sells a variety of locally made products, and we still regret not grabbing one of the t-shirts on sale.
La Isla Bonita

Work and live by the beach at La Isla Bonita. This coliving space offers a dedicated work room with office style chairs, which are needed after countless wooden stools! There is also air-conditioning and free coffee!
At Isla Bonita you can choose between ocean views with air-con or jungle views with no air-con if you’re on a budget.
Sugar Hostel Weligama

Sugar Hostel has a rooftop coworking space, onsite restaurant, free yoga, and great coffee. There are also onsite dorms and private rooms which include access to the coworking space which is open 24/7 plus discounts on the food. We love the look of this place!
Pasijou

Pasijou is a boutique coworking cafés with a garden setting, backup power, free unlimited Wi‑Fi, meeting rooms, beanbags, and food. The downstairs is air-conditioned and the cafés upstairs is perfect for taking a break. The Wifi speeds are 30mbps, and they have backup power generators so you can be confident in your connection.
Best Digital Nomad Cafés In Weligama
Hangten Rooftop Restaurant

If you’re looking for good coffee then Hangten will deliver. They use locally grown Soul Coffee and offer everything from a flat white to an Americano, plus milk alternatives are available, which is not always the case in Sri Lanka.
Hangten isn’t just a cafés, it’s a social hub. On Monday, Wednesdays and Thursdays, Hangten Rooftop hosts different events ranging from open mic to movie nights. A great place for digital nomads in Weligama to meet other likeminded people.
It may not be the most productive cafés (although there is a dedicated work space), as there’s just so much going on, but it’s definitely got a nomad vibe.
Crazy Burger (Coworking Space Upstairs)

Crazy Burger’s tag line is ‘where productivity meets great flavours and cosy vibes.’ While we didn’t get a chance to try the upstairs coworking space ourselves, it looks like a great hidden gem for remote work. If you’ve been, let us know your experience in the comments, we’d love to hear more!
Ceylon Sliders

For a post surf lunch and email check we’d recommend Ceylon Sliders. Their lunch options are delicious and they offer a reliable internet connection, perfect for a quick catch up before heading back to the surf.
Ice Weligama

For a post work de-stress or morning wake up, we recommend Ice Weligama. Plunge yourself into the ice bath and rejuvenate the aching bones from surfing! There is also an onsite cafés serving warming coffee and a sauna for relaxation.
Extra Thought: The Surfer Weligama
If you’re looking for a surf school with an amazing co-working space we can recommend the surfer. We spent 5 nights here and surfed in the morning then worked in the afternoon at their rooftop restaurant.
The Wi-Fi was reliable, the vibe friendly and there were ample plug sockets.

We loved the location, close to Cargills Supermarket and only a short walk from the beach. The rooms are large and spacious with mosquito nets and fans. The hosts were lovely allowing us to park our Tuk Tuk on their driveway.

The best surf camp in Weligama. Set in a quiet area of the bay with amazing instructors, you’ll learn loads about your technique. There is also a nice community vibe and delicious restaurant.

If you’re looking for a 5-star beachfront luxury in the heart of Weligama, this is it. It’s slick, polished and perfect for travellers wanting comfort. The infinity pool, spa and breakfast buffest are standouts for us.

How To Get To Weligama Beach
Weligama By Train
One of the most scenic and budget-friendly ways to get to Weligama is by train. From Colombo Fort, take the coastal railway line to Weligama Station. The journey takes around 3 hours and costs just a couple of quid.
Most people book 1st or 2nd class for the extra space and comfort. We booked 2nd class but ended up squeezed into 3rd and it was one of our best travel experiences.
We missed our train and joined our carriage at rush hour which was sardine packed, everyone started singing and trust us when we tell you, we will never forget that!

Weligama By Bus
Buses are the cheapest way to travel around Sri Lanka. From Colombo, take a Matara-bound bus, which often stops in Weligama, just check with your driver as you get on. The journey will take around 4 hours and cost 200 – 500 LKR depending on the type of bus.
If you’re coming from Ella the no.31 runs from Ella to Matara and takes approximately 5 to 6 hours. From Matara, you can hop on a local bus or take a tuk-tuk for the final 20-minute journey to Weligama. The bus costs around 650 LKR and the whole journey could take up to 8 hours.

Weligama By Tuk Tuk
