How Much We Spent On The Pan American Highway - April

April didn't disappoint!

We started off staying in the Bolivian Amazon at Chuchini Lodge before heading towards La Paz and driving the famous Death Road... yes the same one from that Top Gear episode!

Although we had a few problems with the car, which I explain below, it meant we had the chance to really explore La Paz, heading out Paragliding, Mountain Biking and up Huyana Potosi!

Next month we head into Peru, our fourth country of the trip, but for now here's how much we spent in April.

April 2026: Budget Email

It's time for our April Pan American Highway Budget round up!

This month was full of highs and lows! We climbed a 6000m peak, visited the Amazon to swim with pink river dolphins, went paragliding but also had major problems with the fuel in Bolivia.Ā

We were told the Bolivian Mafia hijacked the fuel tankers took out petrol and replaced it with river water...Ā

Unfortunately, we got a bad batch! Therefore Yoti wouldn't start without our foot pressing hard on the accelerator!Ā

Things got worse in La Paz when Yoti refused to start at all! A trip to the mechanics where he told us it was the fuel and we needed to burn it off. Yoti then found herself with a plank of wood on the accelerator for the next four hours! What a way to literally burn through the budget!Ā Since entering Peru, Yoti has started like a champ so fingers crossed she's all good.Ā

Considering the car problems we've done alright on the budget this month. Bolivia is known to be one of the cheapest countries in South America which is great for us!Ā

Let's break April down...

April (Bolivia):Ā

šŸ›ļø Accommodation: $219 (We spent a lot of nights in a campsite in La Paz - now we've told ourselves no more campsites until Ecuador)

šŸ” Food & Drink: $355Ā

šŸš— Petrol: $291 (We didn't drive much this month as we spent 3 weeks in La Paz)

šŸŒ‹ Activities: $327 (Huyana Potosi was expensive this month!)

šŸ›°ļø Starlink Mini: $84 (Get one month free!)

šŸš— Car: $207 (Fixing the awful petrol)Ā

šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļøRandom: $180 (Car insurance for Peru, magnet, tolls)

🚔Transport: $27 (Telefericos in La Paz)

Tip:Ā We use RevolutĀ to keep transaction costs low abroad andĀ AMEXĀ to book flights (we're slowly building back up our air miles after spending them on our flight to Santiago.)Ā šŸ’Ŗ Gym Gear: $150

Thanks for having a nose into how much we spend as we take on this epic expedition. If you'd life to support us we've set up a place where you canĀ help fill Yoti's tank! Until next time, from somewhere along the Pan American Highway,
